Women's Holiday Escalation

OK, first let me say that I'm not some misogynist bigot and I love women, especially those from my family. However, due to my unique cultural position, I am forced to celebrate not one, not two, but three so-called "women's holidays". Those are: Valentines Day, The International Women's Day (March 8th), and Mother's Day. And while I don't mind buying flowers on all 3, I think it might be one too many. Two would be OK. One would be perfect.

Who do you buy flowers for on Valentine's Day? If you have a sweetheart she should be giving you something, too (thereby making it not just a women's holiday). I can't imagine anyone I'd give a valentine to (friends and family included) where it would be impolite for them to reciprocate with some kind of gesture.

At least you're not forced into doing Sweetest Day as well. I consider it a fake Valentine's Day for people whose relationships last only half a year. :)

You know, I've never been fortunate enough to be in a relationship during Valentine's day (although I came pretty darn close).

And of course I don't really expect any gifts back from my mother, she already does enough nice things for me every week.

I'll look into the Sweetest Day thing. Maybe I'll even get to celebrate it this year... *crosses fingers*

You could just stockpile V-Day, IWD, and Mother's Day cards and gifts... Then when the day comes just pull something out of your stash and voilĂ ! You are prepared. I've got about nine Mother's Day/Father's Day cards sitting in my desk... I'm set for about four years, plus they were on sale!

It sounds like you have a decent relationship with your mother, which is good. I would not even speak to mine for about three years.

If it's not too personal, what's your unique cultural position?

Yeah, especially after my breakup she has been so supportive and really helped me get through it. Who else would?

My unique cultural position? I was not born in North America. :)
